The exhibition NEW YEAR, SAME CHAOS, features the work of four artists who explore what the new year means to them and different ways to cope with today’s world. On the one hand, the new year can be viewed as an opportunity for a fresh start, a good time to choose to do a mental reset, to face the chaos head on. This can bring light to topics and issues that should be addressed. Some of the works in the show are likely to spark conversations. On the other hand, the new year is just a day on the calendar, and life continues on as it was. In the case of at least once artist, it is a continuation of growth and healing and this is represented in some of the artworks. Some convey feelings of disquiet and unease. Other works seek to provide comfort or answers. For some of the artists in the show, looking up at the sky or observing nature is a way of finding solace and peace amidst the world unfolding on screens. The concept of chaos is universal but how each person experiences it varies.
