Capturing the Light: Monet and the Haystacks
LECTURE & DISCUSSION
Monday, October 13 at 10am
Exhibits Manager Brandon Johnson will explore the origin and significance of Claude Monet’s Haystacks series. Between 1890 and 1891, Monet painted over 30 versions of the haystacks near his home in Giverny, striving to capture the fleeting effects of light and atmosphere. “The more I continue,” he wrote, “the more I see that a great deal of work is necessary to succeed in rendering what I seek.” This pursuit of light was central to both Monet’s work and the rise of Impressionism. Learn more about Monet’s life and the movement he helped define in this engaging presentation.
