July 28, 2025 — Fear of the Dark: The arts lingering obsession with this primal fear
LECTURE & DISCUSSION
Join us for a lecture on the abstract presence of ‘darkness’ in different works of art. Darkness is a ghost of an idea, and in a world which has illuminated its presence, it still haunts us every day. This lingering obsession can be seen in the works created by artists throughout the centuries.
Art in Focus, the popular art appreciation series founded in 1996 by retired educator Rita M. Ray, resumes for adult learners of all ages this fall and winter. Sessions are held at the Center for Visual & Performing Arts and are led by South Shore Arts Curator & Exhibits Manager Brandon Johnson and feature distinguished guests.
