Poetry Slam - First Friday

Readings begin at 5:30pm at the Lubeznik Center for the Arts in Michigan City with audience members as judges for this raucous but friendly competition. Admission is free, and all are welcome to cheer on the performers, explore LCA’s art exhibits and enjoy the cash bar and complimentary light refreshments.

This year LCA's poetry slam will have a new format. Marc Kelly Smith, the originator of the Poetry Slam movement, will host the event. The night will begin with an open mic inviting performers of all walks to share their original works or perform a favorite poem from another author. A fill-in-blank poem themed for the occasion will be provided to members of the audience on the chance they might be inspired to become a poet themselves. The slam will conclude with the (made famous at the Green Mill) Dumb Rhyming Word Game. The winner of which will be crowned as this year's LCA Poetry Slam Champion.

Poets interested in participating in LCA’s Poetry Slam should prepare poems under three minutes in length for the open mic and register by contacting Jessie Sexton at 219-874-4900 ext. 107 or jsexton@lubeznikcenter.org. Spots are limited, so call or email today!
