Nostalgia - What is it Good For?

  • Promise You Art House 8830 Kennedy Avenue Highland, IN, 46322 United States (map)

During these times of amped up screen time, where memories of the past, the ever changing present, and stories of an unsure future are constantly at our fingertips, it may feel impossible to find the time to settle our thoughts, our hearts, or our minds in order to use the sum of these amazing gifts to our advantage.

The Promise You Art House cordially invites you and yours over to our place to surround yourself with glimpses into all of our collective pasts as part of "NOSTALGIA | What Is It Good For?"

This group art exhibit is a fresh look at an old idea, with original work filling our gallery walls with photography, collage, classic and digital paintings, and more that have been curated together in order to satisfy our senses of both longing and belonging.

The emotion of nostalgia can be evoked from a familiar scent, an old photograph, or a cherished song. Often it occurs during periods of sadness or transition, but it can appear anytime — affecting the young as well as old. Even children as young as eight-years-old can experience the wistfulness of times past.

The healthy use of nostalgia is not about retreating into the past, it's about exploring the treasures of our “mental” time capsules that can propel us toward the future, with a restored sense of enthusiasm and hope.

Live Music will be provided through the duration of the opening exhibit with both original songs and music that nods to the past:

1:00PM | Herbie & the Hemorrhoids [classic rock trio]

2:30PM | Randy McKay [acoustic/electric guitar]

4:00PM | Pablo Baldetti [soul/rock/R&B]

Exhibit-themed refreshments will be served for all to enjoy.

We'll see you over at the house! 02/01/2020 from 12-6 PM
