Join us for the opening of Artspace artist Jose Vela’s exhibit of repurposed abstract expressionism, "Modernwerld."

CASH BAR, 21+ drinks provided by Mcginnis Pub

MODERNWERLD invites the exploration of social, political and cultural issues prevalent in American contemporary society. Using economic and environmentally friendly materials, consumerist culture and its profound impact on accessible art-marking and marginalized peoples is called into question. The artist's background in underground music, punk theology, and DIY ethos informs a consistent methodology in confronting a landscape of constructed disorder.

Jose Vela is a first generation self taught, self-described abstract expressionist painter. Growing up he had no problem finding ways to unload his creative energy whether in poetry/creative writing, music, and painting or photography. Born in West Palm Beach, Florida in March 1985, he recalls being taught how to run from crocodiles and trees that rained snakes. The wet to dry textures of the wetlands made an impression on him that he caries to this day.
