Wheatfield painter, Doris Myers will be featured artist at The Village Gallery March 3 through April 10, 2019. A “Meet the Artist” reception will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, March 3 with Doris sharing the stories behind her collection. The work she presents in this exhibit is only a glimpse of the prolific body of work she has produced for over 70 years. The exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.
Over the years, Myers has explored a wide range of stylistic directions, ranging from abstraction and pointillism to more realistic imagery. Drawing inspiration from her environment, whether it be the pond in her backyard or a lush marsh in Savannah, Myers feels most at home drawing upon nature for her subject matter. “Although I have developed a personal style, I like to approach each of my paintings as an individual statement as I continue to contemplate and respond to my surroundings,” Myers shares.
After 17 years of marriage and mother to 4 children, Myers enrolled at Valparaiso University earning her BS and then her MA from Ball State University. Retiring after twenty-three years as an art educator in public schools, she continued as a professional artist and educator giving lectures, demonstrations and workshops in a variety of media including painting, pottery and silk painting. Myers will celebrate her 98th birthday in November and looks forward to many more years of creative endeavors including painting, creative writing and staying active in her local community. Her Paintings can be viewed and purchased at The Village Gallery through April 10, 2019.
