Stano Grezdo is an artist and curator. He was born in 1972 in Piestany, Czechoslovakia and graduated from The Graphic School in Bratislava, Slovakia. Stano was part of the cultural underground in Czechoslovakia, and came of age on the cusp of the Velvet Revolution in 1989, which greatly influenced his work. After relocating to the US, he continued this exploration as an artist and DJ with the pirate radio station “Free Radio Austin” based in Austin, Texas. His radio program focused on the underground scenes in Soviet bloc countries.
After moving to Chicago, Stano became curator of The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art (UIMA) from 2007-2017, where he curated or co-curated over 60 exhibitions. He also cooperated on exhibitions with other institutions such as The Ukrainian Museum in New York; Ukrainian Institute of America in New York; The Bauhaus Chicago Foundation, The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture, Chicago and others. Stano is currently co-owner and Director of The One After 909 gallery in Chicago.
Joyce Owens is a painter, sculptor and curator. Owens studied with preeminent artists at Howard University (BFA) and Yale University (MFA in painting). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in galleries, museums, art centers and U.S. embassies. She has earned multiple commissions, most recently at a new hotel in Hyde Park and Chicago’s Blackstone Hotel.
Owens has been the curator for exhibitions at Chicago State University from 2006-2015, Woman Made Gallery and the Logan Center at the University of Chicago, among others. She is a published arts writer, juror, panelist and speaker who has lectured at various institutions including The Art Institute of Chicago.
