WINTER 2012

Throughout the year, South Shore Arts provides over 300 classes in visual arts media for children and adults at its three locations. The Winter session begins the week of January 9th and runs for eight weeks. Most classes meet weekly for one to three hours, depending on the particular subject and instructor. South Shore Arts instructors are highly qualified, educators or working artists.

Children's art classes

Children's Classes and Workshops (ages 2 - 15)
Children's classes featured this session include a variety of pre-school classes, classes in pottery, painting, drawing, airbrushing, exploring Japanese art, intro to manga (Japanese comics), cartooning and more. There are also several one hour workshops for ages 6 and up.
Adult Art Classes

Adult Classes (ages 16 and up)
Adult classes include drawing, painting, pottery, fantasy drawing, intro to manga (Japanese comics), collage and experimental techniques, colored pencil, photography with darkroom instruction, intro to digital photography, photoshop I and II, airbrushing and more.



Munster classes for South Shore Arts are held in fully equipped art studios located on the lower level of the Center for Visual and Performing Arts. Winter classes will also begin the week of January 9th at South Shore Arts sites in Crown Point and Hammond. The newly located Crown Point location offers pre-school classes, as well as drawing, painting, pottery and more for both children and adults.

The Hammond site of South Shore Arts, Substation No. 9, offers classes in painting, drawing, advanced manga, art studio (mixed media), airbrushing, photoshop I and II, a Senior Art Workshop and more.

South Shore Arts also offers a FREE Art Appreciation program September through May for adults at the Munster location. Click on the above Adult Classes link to view the complete schedule.

DISCOUNT FOR HAMMOND RESIDENTS!
Through special funding from the City of Hammond, Hammond residents taking classes at Substation No. 9, South Shore Art's branch in downtown Hammond, pay only half price! This discount is not applicable at other South Shore Arts locations or in conjunction with other discounts. Proof of residency is required upon registration.

SIGN UP EARLY
Most classes require a minimum of five registrants. If within three days of the first class we do not have enough registrants, South Shore Arts will cancel the class and provide you with a full refund.

CLASS REFUND POLICY
If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, a full refund will be granted. Refunds, minus a $10 processing fee plus the cost of supplies (if applicable), for class withdrawal will be allowed only if the class enrollment is greater than the minimum number of registrants and if notification is made seven days prior to the first class. Refunds, minus a $30 processing fee plus the cost of supplies (if applicable), for class withdrawal will be allowed only if notification is made before the second class meeting and if the class enrollment is greater than the minimum number of registrants. No refunds will be made for withdrawal after the second class meeting. No refunds will be made on Memberships.

SCHOLARSHIPS!
South Shore Arts offers a limited number of need-based scholarships for elementary through high school aged students who have been recommended by a classroom teacher or art instructor.
